Chris hails from Rochdale, Lancashire and originally started playing the cornet aged 8.  After a year it was deemed for the best that he should be given a trombone!  Whilst under the tutorage of former Grimethorpe Principal Trombone Richard Brown, Chris progressed very quickly on the trombone and was solo trombone of local championship section outfit Milnrow Band at just 13.

In 2013 Chris commenced what proved to be a very enjoyable and successful 4 years at the Royal Northern College of Music.  In this time he was brass finalist in the RNCM Concerto Competition, principal trombone of the RNCM Symphony Orchestra for 4 years and most notably winning the ITF ‘Emory Remington’ Trombone Ensemble prize with the RNCM Trombone Octet.  At the end of Chris’ first year at RNCM, he joined Black Dyke Band on principal trombone.  A position he held for 2 years, notable highlights include; Europeans win in 2015 and tours to New York and Japan.

In 2016 Chris left Black Dyke to concentrate on his freelance career and regular guests with orchestra such as; BBC Philharmonic, Halle Orchestra and Opera North.  He also completed trials with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Welsh National Opera.  Chris was delighted to accept the role of Principal Trombone with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, a band he had always admired as a child and looks forward to banding again at the very highest level.
